10th May 2020 Morning Worship – 5th Sunday of Easter

St Luke's Church in Hedge End

We pray together

Risen Christ,
your wounds declare your love for the world
and the wonder of your risen life:
give us compassion and courage
to risk ourselves for those we serve,
to the glory of God the Father. Amen.

I give You my heart

Jesus Christ, risen Master and triumphant Lord,

we come to you in sorrow for our sins,

and confess to you our weakness and unbelief.

We have lived by our own strength,

and not by the power of your resurrection.

In your mercy, forgive us.

All   Lord, hear us and help us.

We have lived by the light of our own eyes,

as faithless and not believing.

In your mercy, forgive us.

All   Lord, hear us and help us.

We have lived for this world alone,

and doubted our home in heaven.

In your mercy, forgive us.

All   Lord, hear us and help us.

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind

Bible reading: John 14:1-14

Christian Aid Week

Today marks the start of Christian Aid week. We can use this time to remember and acknowledge that we are part of a global community. We are neighbours near and far, together in the home that is God’s world. Watch the story of Florence from Kenya; hear her experience of climate injustice and the help that her community has received to enable them to thrive.

Love mercy

The Response

Lord, in your mercy
All: hear our prayer.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come;
your will be done;
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.  Amen.

Closing Prayer

O happy day

The greatest day in history
Death is beaten, You have rescued me
Sing it out, Jesus is alive
The empty cross, the empty grave
Life eternal, You have won the day
Shout it out, Jesus is alive
He’s alive
          Oh, happy day, happy day
          You washed my sin away
          Oh, happy day, happy day
          I’ll never be the same
Forever I am changed
When I stand in that place
Free at last, meeting face to face
I am yours, Jesus, You are mine
Endless joy, perfect peace
Earthly pain finally will cease
Celebrate, Jesus is alive
He’s alive
And oh, happy day, happy day
You washed my sin away
Oh, happy day, happy day
I’ll never be the same
Oh no, forever I am changed
Oh, what a glorious…

Pray for climate justice.

Join in with our powerful prayer movement for climate justice.

Act for climate justice.

The New Deal for Climate Justice is calling on the Government to:

  • transfer its fair share of finance and technology to poor and climate-vulnerable countries
  • stop fuelling fossil fuel expansion and support clean, renewable energy instead
  • develop renewable energy without exploiting people or destroying the environment in the Global South
  • curb the over-consumption that is driving climate breakdown
  • invest in decarbonising the UK economy in a way that addresses economic and social inequalities.

Give for climate justice and the Coronavirus emergency.

Regular giving enables us to stand together with communities worldwide at any given point and make a lasting difference. A regular gift would help us be there for more people in the long term, wherever the need is greatest.

Join Christian Aid for virtual prayer and reflection:
