Confession

This was written by Sam Hargreaves and engageworship.org (reproduced with permission) for an all-age communion service. Although we are not celebrating communion today, we can in our hearts and this prayer can be both a confession and a preparation for receiving communion.

The response has actions you might like to do, and then maybe leave space to listen to God and say your sorry prayer, in whatever way is right for you.

Christ’s body and blood: [arms out to side; then check pulse]
for us they were given. [hands out front palms up, push forward]
This bread and this cup [palm out slice with other hand; then mime holding cup]
tell us we’re forgiven. [circle fist (facing down) on palm.]

Jesus, you died on the cross so that I might be forgiven of everything I do wrong.
Sometimes I remember that, but other times I forget, and continue to hurt you with my actions.
Please bring to mind any things I need to say sorry for now, in the quiet.

Christ’s body and blood:
for us they were given.
This bread and this cup
tell us we’re forgiven.

Jesus, this communion meal is for all people, because you always welcome everyone.
Sometimes I remember that, but other times I forget, and I treat people badly.
Please bring to mind any ways I have mistreated other people, so I can say sorry now, in the quiet.

Christ’s body and blood:
for us they were given.
This bread and this cup
tell us we’re forgiven.

Jesus, this communion meal is like a preview of eating with you forever in a world put right.
Sometimes I remember that, but other times I forget, and I don’t live as if you are coming again.
Please bring to mind ways I can live which will bring heaven to earth for the people around me.

Christ’s body and blood:
for us they were given.
This bread and this cup
tell us we’re forgiven.

Amen.

Prayer of Declaration (Creed)

We believe in God the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named.

We believe in God the Son, who lives in our hearts through faith, and fills us with his love.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us with power from on high.

We believe in one God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Prayers

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come;
your will be done;
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.  Amen.

Let everything that has breath

A special prayer for the day ahead

Father of all, you loved the world so much that you gave your only Son, and you pour out your Spirit in a continuing activity of grace. May we be so caught up in the richness of your grace that our own giving is renewed and our own selves refreshed by the living water of Jesus, in whose precious name we pray.

Amen.

Closing Prayer

May the Holy Spirit who gives gifts to all people, flood your hearts with thanksgiving to God. And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. In the name of Christ. Amen.

Thank you for joining in our worship.
