St Luke's Church in Hedge End

Welcome

Opening Prayer

Risen, ascended Lord,
as we rejoice at your triumph,
fill your Church on earth with
power and compassion,
that all who are estranged by sin
may find forgiveness and know
your peace,
to the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

Confession

Through the prophet Ezekiel, God promises to put a new heart and a new spirit within us. Let us prepare to receive these gifts by confessing to our shortcomings and wrongdoing.

When we reject the new heart and new spirit that God freely offers us.

Lord, have mercy.

When we are cold-hearted and mean-spirited towards others.

Christ, have mercy.

When we ignore the message that Jesus‘ teaching has for us, hardening our hearts so his words can’t reach us.

Lord, have mercy.

Absolution

May the God of love
bring us back to himself,
forgive us our sins,
and assure us of his eternal love
in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind

We will now watch “The Liturgists – Vapor” – who have produced contemplative worship experiences through thoughtful and evocative art. As we watch, listen to the words and may it stir you to praise.

V1: Oh the vapor of it all
It’s a chasing of the wind
the powers of the earth so pale and thin
We will set our hearts on you again

V2: Heaven taunts the hearts of men
We can feel it from within
The beauty of it all, the mystery
The swelling of a voice, a rising sea

Holy! You oh God are Holy!
Trees clap their hands for you!
Oceans they dance for you!
You are holy

V3: Oh the mystery of it all!
I can never peer within
Could never find the words or understand
The fullness of a God! become a man

Holy, You oh God are Holy
Trees clap their hands for you!
Oceans they dance for you!
You are holy, infinite and holy
A billion suns rise for you!
Clouds paint the skies for you!
Mountains stand tall for you!
Valleys bow down to you!
Everything rising to sing all our songs for you

Holy, the Impossible and
Holy Kings become fools for you
Kingdoms to ruins for you
Vapor finds ground in you
Music finds sound for you
Everything rising, everything rising, everything rising

Come like dawn,
Like waves, like sunlight; bring this world to life
Come like rain,
Like breath, like springtime, bring this world to life

Prayers

Spend some time in prayer praying for the following:

  • Someone you know who is suffering with ill health
  • A place in this country that is on your heart
  • A country around the world that needs healing and hope
  • Pray for those struggling with many issues during lockdown and isolation, be physical, mental, emotional and any age
  • Pray for encouragement and blessing amidst these times and that we would be kind to ourselves
  • Pray for our leaders of the nation and church that they may seek wisdom in all decisions they make in the coming days and weeks ahead

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come;
your will be done;
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.  Amen.

Forever
